Auction Guide

On Africans Market, some shop owners can put an item up for auction: interested buyers place bids, and the highest bidder wins the item when the auction closes.

How it works

  1. The seller sets a starting price and a duration.
  2. Each new bid must exceed the previous one by at least the minimum increment set on the listing.
  3. When the auction ends, the highest bid wins.

The seller cannot bid on their own listing.

Advantages

For the sellerCompetition between buyers can push the price above the initial estimate.
For the bidderYou pay exactly the price you agreed to, no negotiation.

Stay safe

A submitted bid is a commitment to buy: take the time to confirm your offer before submitting it.

⚠ No remote payment

No remote payment is required to win an auction. Payment is made in person at delivery, or via Mobile Money if the seller offers that option on the listing.

📍 Arrange the meeting in a public, safe location to inspect the item before finalizing. Once the auction closes, contact the seller or buyer promptly to arrange the handover.

Any account suspected of manipulating prices or refusing to honor a buying or selling commitment may be suspended. For a dispute, contact our support.
